Yea, I say this as a marketing agency owner, not a developer or AI researcher, that besides Sam Altman, Dario, Demis and Elon, that Karpathy is one of the most influential I follow. There’s a lot of value for the business world in learning AI from someone who has been at the top of their game but now is doing a general service by being a great educator and translator between the fields. His recent Wiki approach may b…

His LLM-wiki framework has been very useful for me for some personal research and knowledge-building projects I've been working on recently. When I get an idea for a new project, I first give it to Claude together with LLM-wiki.md and have it spend a few sessions compiling knowledge in the wiki before beginning work on the project itself. I schedule further wiki-maintenance sessions for later, too. Over time, the wik…

Very cool - yea I’ve been building a glossary and knowledge base and applying the linking approach and it’s been fun.

Oh I read them. If I had to bet I follow this more closely than you do. Some redlines are still in place. Not the same ones and it is very clear based on this precedent that red lines can be moved at any times whenever it is convenient for Anthropic as shown by the above articles. So as I said, all a marketing gimmick.

Please quote exactly where the two red lines (autonomous robotic killbots on current-day models, domestic mass surveillance) have been lifted.

Why did you suddenly decide those two red lines were the important ones?

The above article shows clearly they walked back and backpedalled any red lines if any other competing models release them before Anthropic, which is an opt-out for ANY redlines anyways.

LLM is barely an invention. It's an auto complete we had years before.

LLM is not comparable to MCP or skills. There's no way I could've come up with LLMs on my own. Anyway Claude Code is the best.

All harness feels uncomplicated.

Musk being a PoS is a separate issue. My main concern is Karpathy taking about Musk as someone who is smart and makes good technical decisions. From all the interviews and stuff that came out within the past few years, its pretty clear that Musks only contribution to anything is just throwing money at stuff while also scamming suppliers, governments, and so on. The dude has no technical knowledge of his own, he just…

I have the opposite impression. I have consumed tons of hours of interviews with Elon and he comes off as more technically sound and speaks more substance than any other large org CEO I can think of. Karpathy worked directly under him. I haven’t worked for Elon but know people that did and experience is similar. What makes you think you are right? edit: typo

a) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkNkSQ42jg4. That alone should be enough to discredit someone. There was a viral tweet that went something like "I didn't know anything about cars, so when I heard Musk speak about Tesla, I believed him. I didn't know anything about space, so when I heard Musk speak about SpaceX, I believe him. I know a whole lot about software, so when I heard Musk speak about Twitter, I now know that he was full of shit when it came to Tesla or Space X".

b) Musk has made crazy amount of promises and predictions, none of which turned out to be true, and his history is full of dumb ideas and decisions. He literally drove a truck to the Twitter server location, and started ripping out servers, despite people telling him that it will break stuff, and then when it broke stuff, he was like oh, you are right. Is that indication of someone intelligent?

c) Intelligence is not separable by topic. There are no smart people that are conservatives. There are conservatives who remember a whole bunch of technical information and appear to be smart, but information recall is not intelligence. Being able to analyze reality and determine what is true is not is a core skill, and if you apply that to politics or social issues, you end up pretty much center left in terms of political spectrum. Musk is solely on the far right. Someone who is so convinced in his conspiracy theories absolutely does not have the mental machinery to correctly parse technical topics.

I think that's being unfair and I really don't like Elon Musk. But I don't think it's fair to say Elon is stupid / a bad engineer. When John Carmack speaks well of his talent, I take that seriously.

The most charitable interpretation I can give to Karpathy or Carmack is that they haven't been exposed to Musk enough on a personal level.

It's so funny to read these things. Thanks to AI people can do so many things. I mean they could do them also in the 90s with microsoft access and a bit of clicking and copy pasting. But now it costs 10000x more so it's better.

Right? It's like suddenly people discovered that tools can embody expertise. That's literally what we've been doing for ... our entire existence as a species.

Those were literally the only two red lines they had.

Would have been great to hear that his inability to do the interview memorization bullshit as a senior was why he didn't get hired somewhere like OpenAI. lol. Except the good companies probably dont make you do silly stupid outdated interview practices without the tools you can actually use on the job today, right?

I'm not sure what's your point since he is the co-founder of OpenAI

it was a brash example without thinking. I don't know his background that well, so my intent was just to say he would struggle with a major frontier company or startup to pass the basic technical interview theater of technical memorization that others are expected to do. And it was also a way to say he would get an exception, as unfair as it may be. And as I said it would be funny that this is true.

There's a lot of deception going on with job numbers. Everyone knows there was a hiring spree during the pandemic and companies have been gradually shedding off excess weight since then. AI of course is just another excuse to shed more numbers. I'd prefer it if people looking at hiring numbers would compare it with the pre-pandemic levels.

I think it's about time we need to move past this 'pandemic overhiring' story. Pandemic ended years ago.

Long tail effects of major events cannot be wished away
