They regularly dump batches of perfume into the air - you can smell it for miles. It probably confuses pollinators and other wildlife because the smells are so intense.

Silicon fabs do not make server boards. They just produce the silicon wafer i.e. "die" of a semiconductor device. Most die must be assembled into a package before they can be used. The die packaging aka "backend" is almost never done at the same place as the fab. Most backend is in Taiwan or Malaysia or China. They said that there would be spin off and supporting industry also moving into this new industrial zone. Maybe a board manufacturer will move in, to pick up the chips from Intel one side of their operation, and deliver them to AWS on the other.

Nah not official - it ends up at various resellers. Not sure what they do directly with it.

Getting in on THAT would likely be a very good deal!

Yeah. They still pollute like crazy. Not as bad as the old days, but they're still extremely bad for the local environment.

Desalination is awesome, and I love to see it improve. No matter how good it is, it won’t be cheaper than water that is available in rivers and aquifers.

Agreed on the skyrocketing prices. Local here - I live 15 minutes from where Intel is breaking ground and it's bittersweet to be honest. I make good money for this area as a Software Engineer, but it's not coastal money and I can see the writing on the wall. I grew up in this area and have watched the locals slowly get pushed out. It's somewhat sad, but what can you do? Single family homes have went up 40% in the last five years and I'm guessing it will only get worse. The theory is that Columbus is supposed to grow by one million people in the next five to ten years, so a tech hub in New Albany will only exaggerate this.

All that being said, I have every intention on trying to work for Intel or at the tech hub itself, make my money/deal with it until retirement age, then get the heck out of here and find a place far far away where I can get something that looks and feels like this place once was.

This is a very childish rant. You could swap Ohio, with Missouri, Indiana, Iowa... All country have states/provinces that are more developed than others. You liking your home state (or not) doesn't make it better. You can say whatever you want, good luck getting people to move to Ohio.

- Compensation is bad, taking into account the raising real state prices.

- Racism is rampant, very ironix as SoFlo workforce is mostly south american immigrants.

- High level of organized crime, shitty schools for kids (including mass shootings), very few things to do(besides the beach), and so on...

Btw this is arguably the best part of Florida, don't even mention central/north Florida. People moving there are chasing tax breaks( I will still take Texas any day). SoFlo is great to party, and that type of things, but as long term move, for a techie , is going to be rough. But to each their own, I met people there that really love it.

This is sad because Boca Raton was where the PC was invented, and was also the place Microsoft and IBM worked on OS/2 together. When IBM moved all their R&D from Boca to Austin in the mid-90s, the scene was already fairly depressed, however.

Yeah, I worked with ex-IBM and ex-DELL people over there. Boca is one of the best places to live in SoFlo, in my opinion.
