Its already started, within Blizzard. Communications Workers of America Union across the WoW and Overwatch teams. Also, no union employees at Blizzard were impact by Microsoft's Xbox layoffs/restructuring. Goes to show, Unions are important and work. The best time to unionize was several years ago. The next best time is now.

Agreed Unions also many times (especially with "guild" type unions) can serve other valuable functions like guaranteeing a higher minimum quality of work (generally).

Guild-style unions seem to be about setting and enforcing cartel pricing, not work quality. At least for the construction and remodeling subcontractors I encounter.

Microsoft, one the world's greatest monopolists, bequeaths a game engine monopoly unto Epic Games, in one the biggest corporate blunders of all time. If they were smarter about this, they would commoditize their compliment and open source the Doom The Dark Ages engine just like John Carmack did with the Quake 3 engine.

They did the same thing with their web browser engine years ago.

IMO, people should stop chasing making AAA games or whatever nVidia pushed out. They should just build games instead of graphics demos that sometimes sold well. They can stick to desktops 10 years ago, make smaller teams, and either build their own engine or use something that is not UE5.

Ten year old desktop users aren't exactly known for buying new games, especially at full price. The average spending gaming hardware are the consoles. No one is going to start building a game targeting a Playstation 4 today, they'll target the 5 year old PS5.

That's not true. New games are still being made for and released on PS4 and will still be for the next few years. If the PS4 hardware is enough for your game, you can just release there and people can play it on PS4 or PS5.

There's a massive difference between being perpetually employed and being fired for no reason at a job you've already demonstrated your ability at.

>being fired for no reason at a job you've already demonstrated your ability at ??? Curious to learn more about how would one ethically justify that? No one owes nothing to another (aside from what's protected by human rights).

You owe everything to other people. What do we owe to each other is literally a joke question in things like The Good Place.

No, but it doesn't mean the opposite will either. Some solutions are orthogonal and in reality commenters online have no idea what to do in these sorts of business situations and therefore resort to making pithy statements.

What's the opposite of pissing off your customers then? Not pissing off your customers. Pretty simple, you're reading far too much into it, but thanks, it's a while since someone acknowledged my pithy status.

We should put you at the head of a company as clearly you know so much about it. It's not as if these other people haven't tried the same thing and turns out they make no money instead. These "pretty simple" solutions sound good, don't work, as they say.

What are you basing “it delivers more value to customers” on?

Customers are willing to spend more money on it. How else do you define value?

Measuring value that way is precisely what “from a business perspective” means. Things can also be judged on artistic or technical merits, among many other perspectives.
