It's to allow employees to confidentially browse the soft-core-like reels while at work. Nobody wants to be tracked while doing that.

The number of people in these comments who would be happy to be "paid well" to contribute to what's inarguably a huge net negative worldwide is exactly how the company got to this point. It's astonishing how many people value a ton of money over doing something good. Everyone who talks about setting values aside for cash is the problem. Gross.
The solution is for a country to have decent baseline social services. The idea of hoarding money to ensure you don't die on the street or working a menial job at age 75 would diminish somewhat.

Yes, and I found one. It pays enough for having a very stable life, and in a company with ethics! No reason to be that sarcastic, the job market is not dead (at least not in Europe).
The salary gap in Europe is *huge*, at Meta and other big tech you can easily make 3x (after taxes) of what you'd earn in a European company for the very same position, same amount of actually worked hours. It might not be fair or might not be ethical, but in particular if you have dependants, such a gap *does* make a difference.

I haven't read it, but if it's written in the first person with the narrator referring to themself as 'YT', then it's at least consistent? If yours truly suddenly referred to my mother, or indeed if I referred to yours truly's mother, that would be more jarring I think?
That’s not what’s happening. Snow Crash has an omniscient 3rd person narrator.
A protagonist (but not THAT Protagonist!) is named Y.T. (street nickname for Yours Truly) and her mom doesn’t matter. She’s environmental set dressing.

'Yours Truly' seems banal when the main character is Hiro Protagonist. Self-debasing levity is one of the many reasons Snow Crash (1992) is a great reaction to Neuromancer (1984).
I think quite a few folks missed or have forgotten that Snow Crash is a satire on the cyberpunk genre AND society at the same time
And those folks are trying very hard with the whole Torment Nexus thing.

Well they weren't necessarily bad. I think the Numenor (?) Kings of Westernesse (?), I dunno whatever the old Gondor kings were called, used them effectively. It was just Sauron that took over and made them dangerous. So, effective but dangerous in the wrong hand. Yeah, I guess, even that is pretty prophetic, heh.
