Before jumping to conclusions, maybe ask for context too? Well, I don't know you, your teacher, or even what subject we're discussing but you wrote that you did "not have to bother with homework and assignments". Perhaps you would have learned more if the instruction had not failed to make you study? :P
Sometimes a teacher can also do a great job of getting you interested (also important) but I was focusing on quality instruction.
