propaganda bots are working extra time on this post huh. A decolonization attempt can be skewed into looking like 'oppressing' the colonizers themself. The Internet does not even exist for 30 years and its already such a dangerous weapon of mind destruction

I have no sympathy for the Iranian regime but the US' unilateral actions are worse. At least the Iranians mind their own business. At this point, every country which has natural resources which the US might want to steal should have nukes.

> At least the Iranians mind their own business Except they don’t. North Korea minds their own business.

Neither Iran nor NK interfere with India. I don't see how they interfere with the US. Last I checked it was the US which has bases in the Middle East.

When Iran builds a base in Mexico or Canada, we can talk.

> Mahatma Gandhi. I daresay the Brits were not as willing to gun down peaceful protesters as today's regimes are.

You should look up the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. (Full disclosure - I had to look up the name after remembering it portrayed in the movie Gandhi)

At least that was condemned by Churchill as "unutterably monstrous".

The Iranian lot don't seem to have similar sentiments.

Right, the current Israeli administration is horrible, especially the far right that keeps it alive. I invite you to oppose that government and help the opposition take power. Instead, you’re making the opposition weaker by putting all the Israelis in one basket. You should read about the Oslo accords and the failed talks at Camp David. This is to say that Israel has been trying for a long time to make peace with the…

Dont need your victim theatrics, we both know who made that comment. We both also know Ben gurions private correspondence and what the plan always was for Israel. We both know the majority of Israel supports the settlements and the status quo in Gaza, but maybe not the last few years. We both know they went out to protest against the punishment of your rapists. Oslo and David talks included poison pills so that Pales…

The Oslo accords were supposed to lead to a Palestinian state. The exploding busses in Tel Aviv didn’t help.

I don’t know what Ben Gurion’s private correspondence was, but it sure binds me, a millennial!

Your aggressive rhetoric doesn’t impress anyone, instead it signals your emotional gut response, probably an ill informed one.

You already hate me, a stranger, and nothing I will say will make you reconsider your position. That is because you hold it because you want to, and not because of real investigation.

> So, they still choose to do it, right? This discussion started with you saying how bad Hamas was for executing Fatah collaborators in 2007 so not sure what point you are making other than agreeing with Hamas. > How Israelis refusal to admit these officials to meet Hamas’s leadership makes the crimes committed by Hamas not true? Inviting Humans Rights Watch does not seem like the behavior of an organization that has…

Holy hell, an actual bonafide unashamed Hamas apologizer in the wild. Here you go, they have their own category of atrocities in Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Hamas_attacks

"Atrocities".

It is telling that people here discuss how the protestors in Iran are justified in using violence but Palestinians are not allowed to resist foreign occupation. Suddenly that is really bad.

Resistance is not a crime.

His is a very idealistic take which weirdly omits that every major example of non-violent protest working to topple a regime involved some foreign super power spending trillions of dollars to wage very much violent wars for the purpose. The insight that he's missing in so many words is that you need to crack the door open just enough for a foreign (super)power to want to come barging in for some reason. Non-violent p…

> insight that he's missing in so many words is that you need to crack the door open just enough for a foreign (super)power to want to come barging in for some reason No foreign superpower barged into the Civil Rights or the Indian independence movement. Not directly. (If we’re counting hypothetical foreign involvement that’s a geopolitical constant.) > sounds like a cop-out to the original blanket statement And no e…

> No foreign superpower barged into the Civil Rights

The presumably US Civil Right movement wasn't happening in an authoritarian state. There's no question that non-violent protest works differently in democratic or well functioning countries. But what's the value of this comparison in practice? Under an authoritarian regime would you recommend writing letters to your representative just because this has been known to work in democratic countries?

> or the Indian independence movement

At least this example is on point. But one good example doesn't generally validate a theory. Look no further than the Syrian civil war you mentioned in your previous comment which required trillions of dollars worth of foreign military intervention. Or the countless failed protests and uprisings all around the world.

> The article makes no blanket statements

It's presented as a "recipe" of sorts, a scenario that flows naturally to the expected and described conclusion when it's anything but. Where's the data to back up such a claim, even if later qualified with a weak "of course it doesn't work all the time"? Any evidence that it works most of the time? A significant even if minor part of the time? Does critical thinking have to take a step back in favor of wishful thinking just because the latter gives you the feels while the former the chills?

Yes, and if you poll Israelis about their views of Palestinians, you'll find that the majority want to exterminate them all. What does that say about Israel? Fucking nothing except that we shouldn't be funding either of them. And we aren't arming Hamas. What matters is that pro-Palestinians aren't calling for the extermination of Israel, while Zionists are clearly calling for the ethnic cleansing of Gaza. Wanting the…

I don’t know, these chants of “river to the sea” accompanied by signs with maps of israel fully covered with a Palestinian flag tell me the opposite. > if you poll Israelis about their views of Palestinians, you'll find that the majority want to exterminate them all Can you point me to that poll, or is that just your opinion? > Zionists are clearly calling for the ethnic cleansing of Gaza First of all, you clearly do…

This works against relatively liberal governments. It didn’t work for the Tiananmen Square protestors in 1989 or for the intermittent Iranian protestors of the past couple decades because those regimes were willing to suppress those protests with overwhelming force. Fortunately, the Iranian protestors are likely to have some overwhelming force on their side soon.

I don't think the other governments that collapsed in 1989 in the face of public protest could be honestly described as "relatively liberal".

Every communist regime that collapsed was in the process of liberalizing, except Romania, which wasn’t overthrown peacefully.

China didn’t collapse in 1989 because they were the only communist regime able and willing to massacre protestors.

> The definition of genocide has been fluid lately. Has it? Interesting. Wasn't aware of this phenomenon.

Yes indeed. I picked the first few search results for “usage of the word genocide lately”, assuming that you haven’t bothered to do that yourself, in hope that you’ll spend a few minutes getting educated on a subject you talk about with such conviction. [1] https://forward.com/opinion/805648/genocide-has-become-meani... [2] https://www.maxim.org.nz/article/genocide-shouldnt-be-over-u... [3] https://www.jurist.org/com…

Hah. "Get educated because I don't like the way you use the word"

From one of the articles you shared:

“acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such.”

Let's see what Israeli leadership have said (a small sample), and then go look at aerial photos of Gaza now, and then tell me who needs to be educated:

Yoev Gallant - Israeli Minister of Defense:

"I have ordered a complete siege on the Gaza Strip. There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel. Everything is closed. We are fighting human animals and we are acting accordingly."

"Gaza won't return to what it was before. There will be no Hamas. We will eliminate everything."

Netanyahu - to members of the Knesset, said that Israel was "destroying more and more houses [in Gaza, and Palestinians accordingly] have nowhere to return", and that "the only obvious result will be Gazans choosing to emigrate outside of the Strip"

In July 2025, Defense Minister Israel Katz instructed the IDF to relocate all Gazans to a "humanitarian zone" in the destroyed city of Rafah, in preparation for an unspecified "emigration plan"

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu's repeated invocation of Amalek and the phrase "remember what Amalek did to you".

Finance Minister Smotrich also said, "There are no half measures ... Rafah, Deir al-Balah, Nuseirat – total annihilation. 'Thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.'"

President Isaac Herzog blamed the "entire nation" of Palestine for the 7 October attack. He added: "It is not true, this rhetoric about civilians being not aware, not involved."

Deputy Speaker of the Knesset Nissim Vaturi wrote that the government was allowing too much aid to enter Gaza and that the IDF should "burn Gaza now".[104] He said that Israel's goal was "erasing the Gaza Strip from the face of the Earth." When asked to clarify his statements by Kol BaRama, Vaturi reiterated that Gaza and its inhabitants must be destroyed, saying: "I don't think there are any innocent people there now... If there is an innocent person there, we will know about them. Whoever stays there should be eliminated, period."[106] In 2025, Vaturi called Palestinians "scoundrels" and "subhumans" and called for the adult men in Gaza to be killed.

What Ben gurion wanted has not changed. I'm I'll informed yet you have no idea what your country really was from the start.

Not sure if it's feigned victimhood or if you feel guilty for what your country is doing. Either way you seem to take what your country does personally.
