Yeah but there will always be crap for Alibaba for anything you can think of. The solution would be banning charging altogether and adopt only proprietary standards.

We've gone down that route before or is your memory fuzzy? When every single god damned device needed it's own special overengineered crap to charge?

But then again you might be old and rich enough to not care about it.

yup, always work around high voltages with your left hand (the one closes to your heart) in your pocket, to discourage unwanted currents from passing through the heart

The main reason being that you don't want to be working with both hands, since then current can travel in one and out the other, directly across your chest.

Am I the only one who feels like it’s a bit late for high powered USB-C when Apple’s M1 is putting the squeeze on other manufacturers by showing how low power and high performance can go together?

I just got a screen that delivers just 40W over USB-C that keeps my M1 MBP fully charged and it’s been a revelation. Suddenly the fact that this machine’s charger is unique in a house full of other MacBooks is irrelevant.

Better: add a color band to the connector. One line for low power, two for medium, three for high.

By the time the relevant committees have worked over that idea, there will be fifteen bands in colours that you need tetrachromic vision to differentiate between.

No, the solution for the US would be to refuse imports of any power device that lacks UL/CSA approval.

What about the 96% of human beings that buy their electronics outside of the USA?

But at least everything uses the same plug, so that’s nice.
