And then you go further upscale and the sidewalks disappear again.

For example Silicon Valley suburb Saratoga has hardly any sidewalks. Median house price is around $4M.

Safe place to run though.

ok, finally got a chance to look at it in some detail, and here is the scoop:

let's see what the values are ?

    % defaults read com.apple.SoftwareUpdate
this gives me:

    {

    }
ofcourse those are modified values, which is done like so:

    % defaults write com.apple.SoftwareUpdate AvailableUpdatesNotificationCountKey -1
    % defaults write com.apple.SoftwareUpdate UserNotificationDate -date "2032-12-31 23:22:47 +0000"
you get the idea.

with this, i don't see the nags just yet, but probably it is a bit early to conclude ?

Those are old areas developed before codes requiring sidewalks that happen to be in a good location where rich people decided to congregate back in the day.

I'd argue it's a bit of both. In my case, I have an iPad 3, which runs iOS 9 compatible apps, but iOS itself doesn't backup the app files, so when various developers pulled their files off the app store for those old iOS versions, I lost access to the old software that did work, which really doesn't make want to buy another iOS device. Less of a problem on mac though.

I guess if it was a paid app I can see the irritation that would cause. Free apps not so much.

I was considering an LPCAMM2-fitted Thinkpad. I was eyeing to buy one with less memory and then buy a 96GB module to upgrade it. However, the module was nowhere to be found in stock, and where it was found, it was priced almost like the whole laptop.

CAMM is still less effective than in-package RAM bundled with your CPU. The Framework folks looked into using CAMM for their recent AMD APU-based desktop and it was a no go.

It could be a compromise that’s better than DIMMs, though. Not every task needs this insane memory bandwidth and (as small as it gets) latency, although I admit it’s so damn nice, but it’s also nice that if memory goes bad, I can just replace it.

You can’t write it off as a marketing gimmick just because you and a few others personally can’t see the difference, many people demonstrably can.

In terms of what I'd hypothetically feel entitled to, absolutely, but it only matters because that basic level of control isn't there
