No it isn’t. Malaysians commute across the river daily and then return at night, having provided their services in exchange for compensation. Singapore gets the work without many of the associated problems with housing those people long term. As a result, there are some ridiculously niche jobs in Singapore that would not exist in another rich country, such as widespread domestic servitude and manual street sweeping
How is that different from people living in New Jersey and commuting to Manhattan?

Any 'underclass' also contributes to GDP and consumes healthcare. How is any of this ignored? But yes, I agree that the US should let in more migrant workers. Good for the workers and good for the target country: cheap infrastructure is great!
Because it is? Migrant workers get sent away when sick or hurt, they don't benefit from healthcare. They don't get treatment, and have to come back to their country. It's the same in the UAE, except there even if you're a westerner, if you work a manual job you will get sent to your country if you get seriously hurt (ask any sailor).
Sources?

Singapore has severe consequences for executives who violate the public trust. That makes it hard for sociopaths to rig the system for the elites.
Stoppp, y'all really are making me want to move to Singapore with promises like that.

[Edit] btw I just talked to my sailor friend, I was wrong, it doesn't matter if you're a westerner or not, if you are a sailor or a docker in Singapore, you will have to pay from your own pocket for healthcare or get back home, same as UAE.

#376I would hardly call it a sudden reversal, looking at the downward trend in the numbers over the last six months or so. https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/non-farm-payrolls
Given the trend of revisions, I wouldn't be surprised if the real loss is around 6 figures, May 2026 revision went from 172k to 63k.

> Pretty sure the Democrats would not have done either the ridiculous tariffs They may not have gone with that specific approach, but the direction was the same. Instead of tariffs the Biden Administration's BBB bill gave money to corporations instead. Two directionally aligned approaches there. The rest of the comments (immigration policy or Iran) are irrelevant to this specific topic IMO
Directional alignment but completely different policy. Trying to claim they are the same is nonsense.
So trying to divorce the two parties here is also a bit of nonsense.

Inflation of certain luxuries may be under control. That's cold comfort to households with two jobs per adult just to make rent+healthcare+food. > in the meantime stock market is going to do another major boom cycle Citation needed
no doubt there's been a rise in costs for the average joe but that's not what the fed targets no citation needed, its common knowledge that rates drive stock market by acting as a gate to control money flowing between money market and stock market but to explain that is really not my responsibility, a very worrying sign that many Americans are seemingly not aware how much of sway the Federal Reserve play on the globa…
What matters most to people? Fed targets and cherry picked inflation indicators? Or the fact that they have to move to afford housing, take on multiple jobs for healthcare and food, can't afford to have more kids or have kids living with them into the kids' late 20s and 30s?
> no citation needed, its common knowledge that rates drive stock market by acting as a gate
I guess you know what the fed is going to do and how the market will react. When that's public knowledge then it's already priced in. Not that regular folks can afford to invest since ~92% of the market is already owned by the top 10%.
