If it's someone I don't know (megacorp here too!) I just ignore it altogether... They'll eventually give up and ask the actual question. It's harder if it's something I can't ethically ignore like my boss or a coworker. PS: One thing that really helps to get my attention is being someone that's actually nice to talk to. I have a LOT of time for people who are not all business and actually care about people. And the b…

About 50% of the time, they finally cave and just ask the question within a couple of days, and the other 50% of the time I never hear from them again! Still annoys me though, as it's just one more thing in the back of my mind when I'm trying to focus on som…

Yeah I know right!! Just wondering if some big issue is going to fall on me by the end of the day when I want to sign off.

But usually it's like what you say.. Often I don't hear back at all :D

Yikes. Screw that noise, literally. Your messaging habit of sending each message fragment as a new notification is the most annoying. 5 messages to communicate one thought? You have no respect for other people or their attention and are so self centered that even at their explicit request you can’t use the shift key when hitting enter. You,re the type of communicator I’d have to look up Slack documentation to mute al…

Jeez, that's some vitriol and some ad hominem here. Calm down, would you ? > Your messaging habit of sending each message fragment as a new notification is the most annoying. 5 messages to communicate one thought? Not 5 messages to send one thought. 3 different messages (each message being one full sentence) to send three distinct points that led to a fourth message being a conclusion. > You have no respect for other…

Yeah, in your scenario it seems like the manager should have that thing muted. If he's on a heated conversation he'll get the pings. If he's participating then it's his problem. Seems like the more appropriate thing would have been for you all to jump on a phone call, but I'm not invested in that.

I think I have some Slack PTSD from messages that come out of the blue:

message 1: hi

message 2: where do u

message 3: think the blubber bee API is failing

message 4: when I get 404

I respond with a question and then don't hear back for 10 or 30 minutes. Screw this noise.

What you said seems reasonable. But the context of the article was the initiation. My bad for lumping your scenario in with the above BS.
