I don’t think it was all that absurd. IIRC Portugal was already flirting with a system like that at the time. ISP’s wanted websites to pay them a fee in order to be accessible or at least not throttled, while also wanting customers to pay a fee to access sites/access them without being throttled. At least that’s how I remember it, it has been quite some time since I really went down that rabbit hole.

Indian ISP had Meta paying them to have their apps included in the unmetered list...

Far from absurd, reality.

How does that matter? I can vibecode a ChatGPT clone in 30 min that uses gpt apis and sell it at subscription.

They'll just ban that...

Yes and no. What many call "dying cash cows" are often doing just fine, it’s just our perception of it that make them want to die. An example: Facebook. Could be considered a dying cash cows while looking at its products but it’s actually a growing business. Despise what their products are, their lack of innovation, and them not being able to compete against TikTok or make the app that will replace it, their business and so their stock have been all increasing.

There's plenty of competition in the online news space, but every news website is bloated with the most annoying ads and toxic paywalls.

No Lite! about it. I've twice unsubbed from YTP because they started showing me ads. Never again.

I've never seen an ad logged in to Premium. Content creators do sometimes insert sponsor segments directly into the video, but YTP offers a skip feature that works fairly well.

I've seen ads on the YT app for the nVidia Shield TV in multiple places. Sometimes ad-roll before/during a video sometimes as the first result in a search.
