Somewhat similar. 3 years of intense effort to find out what was wrong. Constantly told it was depression or anxiety. Turned out it was an auto immune problem. Anti depressants made me care less about problems but didn’t fix them.
I don't have hard data on this, but judging from hundreds, if not thousands, of comments I've read throughout the internet, the misdiagnosis of autoimmune and immune-related diseases as depression is extremely common, so common in fact that I think it will be considered a medical scandal in the future, just like lobotomy it is considered today. The diagnosis of "depression", that doctors seem to be giving away so easily, could be more readily explainable as sickness behaviour[1].
