Is your perspective of restaurants, food trucks, sidewalk cafes, etc., in Europe that they're all large market providers, and not smaller operators?
In general, I think the barrier to entry to providing goods and services is now high enough that it discourages ever larger numbers of businesses from ever being started in the first place.

From 11 to 3 employees. Doesn't seem that outrageous outside of such a time of crisis (since this lab seem dedicated solely to outbreaks, not research), which is when the parent entity should temporarily allocate more people.

And whether or not what replaces it is any better. Historically speaking, widespread democracy is still a recent development.
That's always an open question. Fascism does frequently collapse into other authoritarian regimes, too. But fascism itself will always fail. It is a movement motivated by the petty grievances of cowards and fools, and the same hate and violence they project outward always turns inward at the end.

At what point is it forced/not forced to you? This was related to an Arizona Correctional Industries prison labor contract. In Arizona, labor is mandatory. They either work in these corporate-tied programs or they have to work some other kind of job at the prison. Is that really a choice?
How much choice do you have? I know I don't have much. Either work or go without health care, shelter, and food. All I get to do is choose the job. Sounds like they do too.
