So you still have an FB account because "it doesn't make any difference?" Is that you're argument?

I wasn't making any argument here about what anyone should or shouldn't do. I was simply pointing out that it's not the case that deleting your FB account gets you "out of the game" when it comes to being tracked. That's not the same thing as "it doesn't make any difference".

FWIW, I have a FB account, never initiate friend requests, log in rarely, post ~never. I make no claim that this is the "best" strategy by any particular metric.

So you're not willing to quit FB in you're own? You want the government to make it ok for you? Is that what you're saying?

I don't use Facebook. I use other services where I have no idea what they are doing behind the scenes. For example there is a good chance your name was involved in the Equifax leak. How do you quit Equifax? Go cash only?

Most people don’t know about these issues or don’t care. Also how do you know what company uses your data in bad ways? There are probably plenty of others who do shady stuff you never hear about. We need privacy laws so products that are on the market can be safely used. Otherwise let’s abolish food safety rules and tell people just not to eat at places where food with salmonella gets sold.

That incredibly naive, unless you’re a literal hermit other people in your social and professional circle do spread your data around, as to do businesses you use. I don’t have a Facebook account and never have, but I’m not gulllible enough to seriously believe that means they don’t have a shadow profile one me.

And what about Google, or Amazon? Sure, you can go full T. Kazynski and live in a shack, but short of that you’re screwed.
