I recommend people do mini "evals" from time to time, ask the same question to different models, and eventually you'll arrive at the conclusion that there is nothing like Fable.

#22...but not for Pro plans anymore, they give you one-time 100$ extra usage credits instead (well it said 100$ but I only got 85).
$20 Pro plans are still BS starter plans anyway, right? I blew through that in an hour when I first tested out Claude Code.
No? I have no problems with the 20$ plan and I'm using Opus 4.8 on high. At the end of the week I have a few percent left so it fits right in for me. I don't use it for work, only for personal stuff but I've quiet a few private projects.

The next logical thought would be, maybe I want the thing I can't have (i.e. 100% of subscription used for Fable).

#26Due to all their fumbling I decided to not even try Fable. Why get used to a model with limited shelve life when I can just use the older models that do well for me? Well then 5.6 came out, now Kimi came out and I’m just letting my Anthropic subscription expire. Anthropic will need to do a whole lot better because this just ain’t it.

#28Not surprised, considering how bad it is. Even the simplest tasks trigger a safety. I couldn't imagine paying for it extra.

#29I've been using Fable on and off since the promotion started and have been fairly impressed with it, so I consider this great news!
At the same time, I sense a lot of negativity (especially on HN) in comparison to Codex from OpenAI (who IIUC is bleeding money to keep this going, though maybe Anthropic is too) which didn't do as many promotional and nerf-ing shenanigans.
As somebody who doesn't want to constantly switch tools, is Codex really that much better, or is this sour grapes from folks who want to stay on the subsidized access plans and are mad at Anthropic's pricing model?
