Your engineer comment is unwarranted. I’ll say though … Live streaming is a radically different tech challenge than serving static content. And this fight was the first live streaming event Netflix has ever done. Let’s not trash our HN friends, since many Netflix engineers are active on HN.
It’s not unwarranted IMHO: you’re paying a premium for what is assumed to be top-tier talent and engineering rigor. It is reasonable to expect a higher return for that investment.
