I tried to get myself a custom "Brave Origin" some time ago, but just like upstream Chromium, some related code are just poorly guarded, it's not really trivial to do it and keep it up with upstream.

Ah interesting, I didn't know Brave Origin even existed.

It's not something I'd pay for though. I'd pay for firefox but not another chromium browser.

Sure, but have YT Premium for the family. Don't know how anyone can use YT without it. And it blocks 90% of ads, the rest are tolerable / go mostly unnoticed.

It's nice and I didn't know about it but I wouldn't pay for it. Not for another chromium browser.

I would easily pay 60/yr for firefox though if Mozilla would let me. I'm not donating to the foundation, they waste too much money on stuff that doesn't matter. I don't want them to be an NGO, I just want them to make a good browser :)

In that case you can use the simple Mozilla API (all code in pwsh)

Chromium is a solid browser, Firefox is second atleast in every aspect, but their companies "politics" is what make the difference, it's hard to swallow pill but Chromium is popular for a reason

I use FreeBSD. With every new install of firefox requires you have to remove: sponsored content and news from tabs, Pocket. It asks you if you desire to use Mozilla Ai and many other Mozilla third party shite. So maybe it should…

One can just click the little buttons once, and get on with the business of the day. I don't understand why this seems so hard?

Right. For example, Firefox Mobile doesn't support hitting ctrl+T to open a new tab, completely breaking flow for anyone on a tablet with a keyboard or their phone docked to a monitor.

One can simply fire up a claude and tell it what you'd like to change. A few minutes to sign the extension and Firefox does exactly what you'd like it to. I relayy just do not understand why HN comments pretend this option doesn't exist, or that this is so hard. I have extensions linking it with my i3 setup, setting custom CSS on wm actions, custom shortcuts, what have you. It takes maybe an hour of work to do it nicely.

Right, but there is no meaningful difference in terms of ad blocking ability. It's all theoretical. In practice, uBlock Origin Lite works amazingly on MV3. In my experience, it blocks all the ads. And I've been using it for a while now.

The creator and maintainer of uBlock Origin has said it's inferior and listed why. I don't understand the point of your anecdote.

It's inferior in theory. In practice, it's just as good. That's the point -- was my comment somehow unclear?
