Google simply has no incentive to serve the customer who uses them for domain management. They make so much money from ads that they're far more concerned about their ad revenue than they are about money from paying customers.

I have unrelated issues with Cloudflare becuase they're a single entity that controls access to far too much of the internet, in my opinion. In this case specifically, I moved the domain away since they want you to pay extra money to use custom DNS servers.

Cloudflare is known for controlling infra, while those Google examples are end user applications. Just saying.

#195I knew better than to trust Google, and yet... I switched everything to Google Domains because the UI was very clean and the attempted upsells were minimal. I had moved from GoDaddy to Name.com years prior for similar reasons but Name burned my good will. Is there a service that replaces Google Domains in simplicity and not pushing add-ons?

G, on the other hand, has products actively used and loved by users.

I have a conspiracy theory that a lot of domain registration companies like GoDaddy sell the domain name searches to squatters (sometimes themselves). The larger cloud companies don't have so much incentive do this. I always look up domains from the terminal.

somebody runs those whois servers. verisign runs .com and they like money just as much as the next guy - i wouldn't expect your lookups of unregistered domains to be unsold no matter how you do them.
