Well, I think there are sweet spots for every bracket of wealth. For most of us, having a job and a home that we can reasonably keep until our dying days without living on our knees is the sweet spot. Once you cross into fame and multi million or multi billion (Kanye, Elon), that sweet spot is nothing to them. Their sweet spot is influence, impact, and the like. In their bracket I think few reached a sweet spot witho…

I'm not quite sure what you mean by sweet spot. I think all of the folks you mention really don't give a crap about what people think of them.

> To become one with God That happens in death. Until which, we are human and by extension imperfect.

God became man, so that we may become like God.

He became man to die for our sins, according to the dogma. Man is sinful. Salvation is the path to "becoming like God", and that comes with death.

> I've spent my whole life trying to find my purpose I've always been puzzled at how so many people expect to find "purpose". Nobody has "purpose". You weren't placed on Earth for a reason. You only exist due to the luck of your parents getting laid. And quite frankly, 99.9% of the population will be unremarkable, even if you restrict that 99.9% to first-world countries. I don't expect to have an impact on the world…

>God dammit when did I become such a cynic.

I disagree, you should replace the word 'cynic' with 'realist''

Trying to live my life the way Jesus taught. I believe life and work have purpose. I think we should work hard and enjoy what we have. Not compare ourselves to others as you say. I don't think death is the end. I think my work is to help look after this rock and contribute to society. I think I need some framework beyond my own head to make sense of life, work and death. As a younger man I would have said I have fait…

As a scientist and programmer, everything to me points to a creator. Obviously every person has a different set of options, and some people have no options. I think most people that aren't following Jesus are already following "I decided that I must live my life on my terms." OP has just decided that they want to choose a different direction of what they are choosing to do in this life.

I believe the true purpose is to glorify God and share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others. I've gone through cancer and lost children. Pain is thankfully only temporary. I believe the joy of God is eternal and most people will not find joy/happiness outside of this in their lifetime.

That’s the cynic’s own delusion: that they are the realist and the world is full of pie in the sky idealists. It’s like the precocious 12 yr old that never matures.

Would you mind sharing how old you are? I've had several similar transitions, and I'd be curious how that compares.

I'm approaching 30, and I've been doing inner work for the last 2 years. I still don't feel perfect about everything, as there's a lot of "inner demons" that are creeping in all the time, but it's a work in progress. I can finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I was starting to forget who I truly was but the inner work help, and slowly the fog is starting to dissipate and I can finally start to see more…

Thank you for sharing! I had a similar path around that age.

I finally made it to a point that I have no debt and racked up a considerable savings over the pandemic. I quit my job a couple months ago (have a side consulting gig that pays 80% of my expenses for minimal hours) and I have been loving it. I’m so busy! In the past week I have been working on perfecting a French omelette, started sprouting some heirloom seeds for a patio garden, hosted a dinner party, going on hikes…

How much did you save? 20k on clothes and shoes is a lot lol. I'm kinda thinking of doing the same general thing though if I can. Minimal hours would be awesome

Are you saying that its not possible to do one without the other? I find it is FAR easier to impact the world "at scale" than is to get the credit and money for it.

> Basically, I want to grow old doing what I love, not feeling that I am working. That’s where I’m at, now. I was forced into that, but, after a few years, I’ll admit it’s the best thing that ever happened to me. I’m not rich; and likely never will be, but I’m going to be fine. I was considering working for another ten years, and adding more to a pile, but it would have cost me my soul. This was made quite clear to m…

sorry to hear that, i hope if you feel like working a job again, you find kind, compassionate coworkers.

Our experience of interviewing & working is a function of the people we interact with and there are both "good" and "bad" people. I have experienced both during my career and i hope, i ( & everyone else) gets to experience more of the "good" ones !
