This happened this morning. What are the odds that next week this will be fixed and this whole enragement and speculation was a complete waste of time? This is why I don’t read the news anymore.

By "cancer" do you mean ~50% of the US population? That sounds pretty extreme. What does "cutting out" the cancer mean here?
Hang on…you think 50% of the US population supports what is going on right now?
Meanwhile, 50% live in apathy (be it due to burden, a means of escape, or otherwise)and that's probably the biggest shame. I can only hope enough of those people rise up or wake up before it's truly irreversible. There's probably so much damage as is to take decades to repair.

The motivation does not matter . It is the effect that matters, and also, it is well documented [1] that fascist dictatorships rely (again not in any pre-planned way, simply in how they emerge) on incompetence, sloppiness to achieve their end result - both to allow for wanton destruction, as well as to actually continue making people think none of this is intentional , as we are seeing here. That is, the skepticism w…
>If it stays up and does not get restored, that's also "incompetence, laziness" but it's also the effect of increased fascism. What if it gets restored in a matter of hours, like it has?

I hate the current regime as much as any reasonable person but this isn't a grave matter. This website wasn't the Constitution. It wasn't a legal source of truth regarding the Constitution. There are literally millions of other references to the Constitution and its contents in existence, including original documents. Everyone knows what it says, everyone knows what's missing. There is no possible nefarious consequen…
>There is no possible nefarious consequence that can arise from this, it's just text on a website. In a year where this administration is saying a lot of things that "has no nefarious consequences", only for foul play to occur weeks/months later: that does not fill me with much consequence.

Because they are always testing what they can get away with

We are waaayyy passed that line. We are, for just about every definition, living in an authoritarian state. Trump has immunity, from the Supreme Court, support in the house and senate, support of the media, and enough support from the military. Freaadom isnt free. I think americans forget that. They are waiting for someone else to come save them, which will NEVER happen.
You've just rephrased 'The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants' (just an observation, not taking stance here, esp. as an outsider)

The point of checks and balances is not obstruction for the sake of obstruction. It is that no branch should be subservient or overly deferential to the other branches. For example, Congress should not do everything the president wants just because he's the president as is happening now. Congresspeople have said out loud that the job of Congress is to ask "how high" when the president says "jump". Congress last year…
Ultimately, this is the government the people have chosen, those of us in the other 45% have waning political power and cultural influence. Not really much can be done at this point besides hang on for dear life and hope the pendulum remains functional enough to swing back the other way.

What you're describing is the least of your problems with Trump. In a Westminster system, the leader of the party in power is basically the head of government, the head of state, and the leader of the legislature all rolled into one. And it works without destroying democracy . I genuinely believe that good can come out of American political parties becoming single leader parties. The democrats should do the same, hon…
The British PM isn't "basically" or in any way the head of state or of the legislature. The monarch and the House of Lords still exist and the latter should and very much do assert their power.
A British Prime Minister has more power than an American President.
