This is exactly how the physical representation of money works as well. The central bank controls how many bills are in circulation, and the central bank regularly expires old bills and coins.

Only unstable third-world countries do that. The Bank of England honors all of its old banknotes: "There is no deadline to exchange old banknotes with the Bank of England." https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/exchanging-old-ban... The United States has never demonetized any of its coins or banknotes. All of them are honored and are in fact still legal tender to this day -- even the $100,000 bill! https://en.wik…

Denmark must be an unstable, third-world country, then:

Ah thanks - so why is this not more common in other countries. I do know why it is not in US as giving bank account details to others allows other to withdraw from your account. This is not true in the UK so why no similar system here?

I don't think the lack of such a system in the US is for the reason you think - all you do is tell your bank to send money to the account attached to whatever phone number you enter so it should be technically possible. As a former resident of the UK my feeling is that the lack of such system there is because most bank apps have traditionally been shit. Its probably better today but back in 2015 (when Blik launched)…

My Bank's app has been useful and easy to send money since it come out pre 2015.

But the bank never had any branches and was phone only from the mid 1980s and then had a web front end I think in the 90s.

Thus they knew what people needed before they wrote the app.

I would guess that your bank wasn't one of the 6 biggest banks in the UK in 2015.

"..funded as pilot under the Next Generation Internet (NGI) initiative within the European Commission.." pilot + next gen + initiative + european commission . This combination of terms == no action.

The last time I participated in a project with all those terms (not 'next gen, it was' future', but the idea is the same), it gave birth to the legislation that forces manufacturers to keep providing spare parts 10 years after product EOL, and to provide plans for independants builders after that. Long winded way of saying 'you're wrong'.

aha, sure. and other times it gave us Eurocloud. You ARE using Eurocloud, aren't you???

But your win is legislation, apples and oranges, right? so here's a better comparison - "this site contains cookies".

Not to mention the NGI is not a bunch of words, they have been funding many actionable projects including pretty much all the Fediverse.

That's a US-led project. When you add "Euro" to these things they behave differently.

Well part of one.

My bank is First Direct - which is owned by HSBC.

However the website functionality was always better than HSBCs 9I do have an HSBC account as well)
