Wow. Glad it panned out for you.

Thanks, highly recommended. I forgot to answer, I don’t have MCAS but I do get PEM which I do believe is another form of allergic reaction. I do like to eat histamine inducing foods and I wonder if has kept MCAS desensitized.

I discovered I had PEM this year from working out. Found a trainer that is teaching me to stay in a non hyper mobile range + pacing and that is generally more manageable.

Good luck with the GLP-1. Hit me up via email if you’d like to chat more: HN username at gmail.

Not really, CICO is overly simplified to complete pointlessness. It's all hormonal, if you want to gain mass you can take a myostatin inhibitor which is a class of drugs that have already been discovered. You can also eat protein and lift heavy but that's just another way of managing your hormones.

> myostatin inhibitor These are very new and untested in large populations, but from everything I've heard so far it seems they still won't magically make you gain muscle without lifting heavy things and eating protein. They'll just take the limiter off when you do that so you can gain even more muscle than you would otherwise.

There is conservation of energy, you're not going to gain mass without eating, but if you change nothing else and take a myostatin inhibitor or any other medication that inhibits myostatin (like growth hormones) it is guaranteed you will gain muscle.

There are many people and animals who have dysfunctional myostatin so we already know what happens when myostation is inhibited.

Growth hormones inhibit myostatin so any regular GH or GHRP will help build muscle and retain it and the effect of these have been extensively studied.

Does having uncontrollable weight gain help you get jacked? Being jacked and fat is tons of fun, better than being skinny.

In the same way that CICO (calories in, calories out) is a hard metabolic rule of weight gain, eating lot of complete protein and lifting heavy things is a hard physiological rule of "getting jacked" . It's conceivable that future drug discoveries could safely reduce the amount of lifting required. But the protein requirements will always remain.

You obviously need some amount of protein as building material, but people eat much more than that because having a big excess encourages more muscle growth.

All I know is I had some miserable side effects that started after a couple years that just progressively got worse while on them... when I found out it was the Trulicity/Ozempic I stopped, and the effects coming off were nearly as miserable... took almost a year to recover coming off and still dealing with the fallout.

Curious how you tied the side effects to GLP-1 when they didn't appear for a year and took so long to go away after stopping? Is it possible it was unrelated?

It took about a year and three specialists... Mostly just tried to treat the symptoms.

I found it when I found out about the lawsuit against Trilicity and put 1 and 1 together.

I've still got some digestive problems almost 2 years since stopping.. but it's not as bad. The 24/7 sense of starvation stopped after about a year and gaining 80# over when I started them.

I put Trilicity and Ozempic together as I was on both at one point due to availability issues... Which disqualifies me from active participation from both class action suits.

I've had some of the worst interpretations of a lot of medications before but nothing like this... For the rest of my life, I'm unlikely to take any new prescriptions from here forward...

I'm mostly managing my diabetes with a meat based diet and minimal supplemental insulin. Many days I don't need any. But gluconeogenesis will build up after a few days, even if I haven't eaten.

The more I've looked into it, the more I feel T2D is here treated with Keto/Carnivore over pharma intervention. Doesn't make it easy and environmental issues happen... I cheat about one meal a week and often pay for it.

Nobody understands why it all helps, they just noticed it does work for something, quickly pushed it to the market first to get patents and get all the profits from it before generics + derivatives hit their pockets. Now, everyone is studying it because there's all new funding coming in for it and finding other versions of it that they can profit off it. Nobody knows what migraine really is, so this isn't a surprise…

Is there any good consensus on what the deal is with this drug yet? I don't know how to think about GLP-1. In the headlines it seems like every month it's a miracle cure for something new, yet we don't really understand it? But it seems like just generally...everyone, including me, would benefit from being on it...? The whole thing makes me uneasy but I'm not exactly sure why outside of it seems weird to have one dru…

Just an update, because I think my last point wasn't clear.

I'm not saying forever drug is a bad thing. I'm saying people who wants to take GLP-1 as a temp drug to lose weight quickly and get off it may not realize the long term impact it may have on their body.

For an example, certain type of anti-depressants has serious side effect that if not carefully tapered off and managed with a different drug, can leave folks with cluster headaches that lasted several months if not years.

> I don't think it's possible to "reduce access to the harmful thing" when that thing is "food". If you look at obesity, it was a very stable problem until the 80s, when it suddenly skyrocketed across all age groups and both sexes. So unless we had some sort of mass infection of a discipline-destroying virus, another factor must be at work. Which, rather clearly, is food engineering. So miss me with 'the thing you do…

> So no, I do not want to reduce access to "food".

But you do, to foods you think is best. Regardless, it'll never work.

> Cute strawman. I didn't say anywhere that people should just "tough it out". Food can be addictive just like alcohol or cocaine.

Not a straw man, it's taken from your own words - because you literally just said "the normal way". If we could do it that way, we would! We know you suffer, but you want us to suffer too, but also not lose weight. Because that's how it works for us.

Exactly this. It gives you the CHOICE to stay healthy. Losing alot of weight is hard, before Ozempic I went to a weight loss clinic where they precribed stuff like the "hcg diet" or old medically assisted fads. I lost ALOT of weight, online they would all say the same stuff of "you'll just gain it back". A person cannot lose weight that fast normally, losing 70 or 100 pounds at 2-4 pounds a month is alot of time. But…

> I think alot of people don't understand how hard it is to exercise or lose weight while fat, just due to the join pain and muscles.

That's right. I think the people who have done it successfully without the shots aren't that obese compared to those who need it.
