Guess I won't be able to sponsor anyone anymore. I guess as a US based company they are expecting everyone to just have a credit card.
Or a debit card.

#112I’ve always used PayPal on GitHub for sponsoring great devs since it’s the lowest touch option. Strange that there is no explanation as to why it’s being stopped.
Is a paying github user it's not the lowest touch option. For me they just bill me on the card I'm already paying them with so easier than paypal.

#113We hear a lot from people who have had a bad experience using PayPal. But is there anyone who has had a good experience, either as a merchant, or as a customer?

Blows my mind that that's legal. If they lock your account they should be obliged to still show a form to withdraw to a bank account you own.
It wouldn't blow your mind if you did a bit of research. On HN that might look…

I've seen that PayPal's support, APIs, documentation, etc., is substandard. Downtime events are frequent. Getting in touch with a human is impossible.
I have actually had a really good experience with braintree (a paypal service, competes with Stripe).
Braintree might have been decent as a startup/small player, but getting pushed to the same stage as Stripe make them look struggling IMO.
Used to interface with Adyen and Stripe in the past, and PayPal's Braintree part is way laggier and prone to errors.

Yeah, I've sold over $1M worth of stuff on eBay since 2011 and have mostly good things to say about them. Much better support than eBay or Amazon, at least for merchants, and the few times I've needed them as a customer they've helped me out. Even one time when I was socially engineered into ticking the "item received" when I hadn't received the item, they helped me get a refund. I think a lot of the bad stories you…
