Using part of your actual IP address as an identification measure is really scary. They're giving away tons of bits of entropy.

Technically, they don't even qualify for safe harbor protection since there's no registered agent, and their policy seems to be "we won't or can't remove anything for any reason".

So they might get a DMCA takedown request, but even if they comply with it they would still have liability and could still be sued.

This is my personal nightmare, and is why I am horrified to show HN my projects. So much detail has been missed in both technical terms and otherwise that I might have missed myself. Really, it seems like an otherwise okay idea implemented with all the expertise of a undergrad at a hackathon. HN has seen this immediately and responded by tearing it to shreds.

That being said, this needed the constructive criticism. I hope the author[s] figure out how to make this something really great, and I think they can.

On the Internet, you either have explicit norms of what is acceptable, or your audience makes them up for you (and the result isn't always pretty).

Frizbee is a registered trademark of the Wham-O toy company. Does anyone with legal expertise know if this could be a problem?

I don’t quite understand Frizbee’s promise of freedom, on the other hand. They say they’re a “social news site”; do they ban non-news content then? how they determine whether something is news or not?

Hub’s set of rules basically defines its audience. Having complete freedom—not having any rules—means not having any audience. The feed would simply be overwhelmed with spam, and if you ban spam—you got the rules.

I like the direction, but http://contrastrebellion.com/ should be your friend.

You should consider tweaking the font weights and contrast ratio, I have pretty good eyesight, but the bold light greys were uncomfortable to read.
