Energy costs may be predictable, but bandwidth costs are potentially volatile due to lack of competition.

If you can't deal with a little thing like a volcano, the server farm is the least of your worries.

In the last 1100 years, only 18 have erupted. And the terrain of Iceland means the direct threat is minimal: keep your datacenter away from the plate boundary parts of Iceland, and then you only have to worry about toxic clouds every few hundred years. If a company is really saving hundreds of millions over a few years or decades, they can afford to have the datacenter run remotely or sealed off from the outside atmosphere.

There's little risk of volcanic catastrophes in Reykjavík according to geologists.
