Maybe I'm just not getting it, but why would I want a "Smart Home"? It seems to be a little like a Smart TV, everyone wants more features, but really they're newer going to use the built in voice control or install any apps. But I would like to be able to turn on my outdoor front door light from outside when I get home after dark. And I'd like to be able to grant access to people remotely.
We have a Nest. It was a gift. Is it useful? Sure, it's way better than our old thermostat, and it's nice that usually it sets the temperature to what we want without our explicit intervention. Is it worth the price? Well, no. But it will presumably get cheaper.
