It's fine in London as well. By the looks of it, the downloads are broken. I rarely comment on the hyperbole of downtimes and how it ruins lives etc etc. However when a hosting company goes down its a big issue as we cant serve our product / sites but we can launch another server and away we go minus the costs. But when Github goes down we can no longer collaborate it feels like a much bigger issue. I really love Git…

If only there were a distributed version control system, not dependent on central servers.

This is a pretty good time to reflect on how reliable Github has become recently. A year ago, GitHub was going down regularly from DDoS. I know because I was on pagerduty for https://circleci.com, and often had to wake up to respond to issues.

In the last 6-9 months, GitHub has been pretty flawless, and issues are solved almost immediately.

Great job guys, the hard work you put into improving your architecture shows!

What is this magic you speak of?

Distributed, that has to be some kind of made up word.

I agree, presuming you use Github for more than just hosting code. Ironically, I was in the middle of evaluating wheter we should start using Github for more than just hosting code, e.g., lightweight project management through issues, code reviews through issues, internal company documentation through wiki etc. when I noticed it being down!

1. Try git push -> timed out 2. Check website -> No response 3. Head to HN to check Github status 4. Downtime confirmed. 5. Head for coffee break :D

git push - timed out

2. git checkout -b new_branch

3. Slave away for our corporate and intelligence agency overlords.
