You need to come to grips with the fact that SL was the high-water mark for OS coherency/consistency/quality from Apple.
You can't pour all of this time and energy into iOS and phones and still make something as clean as SL. Which is too bad.
FWIW, I continue to run SL on an early 2009 Mac Pro with no problems or annoyances ... hope that can continue.

Not really. On iOS you can't/don't overlap windows, so its design language never had to describe this relationship. One of the questions floating around for the past few months was whether the next OSX would go in a flatter direction, and if so how they would cue window overlaps. It looks like the answers are (a) yes and (b) using roughly the same shadowing as before, plus translucence.
windows/views do overlap on iOS. Apple specifically mentioned translucency when demoing Control Center in iOS6 at WWDC last year. They are using the same playbook for OSX

There were multi-monitor updates in Mavericks - fixed most of my issues. What's still an issue for you?

Agreed. It seems to miss a step, some additional stuff that they couldn't include now but would have made the design complete.
For instance it would work if one could drag any area of a window that doesn't react to a click (like the white space between the bubbles in the chat window). Or additional gestures to easily rearrange/move the windows, something like three finger scroll make the window follow the fingers instead of back/forward.

Sending SMSs from Address Book was a phenomenal feature. A shame that they yanked it years ago. Good to see its return.
