I think it is just US "puritan" culture. In general it is not a good idea to let a potential employer know that you are actively watching porn ... What you do in private is nobody's business, but if you do it publicly ... this could rise a red flag for an US employer.

I was born in Eastern Europe where nobody had a problem with you watching porn as long as you don't do this at work or in public spaces (schools, shops etc ...).
