For those being banned without explanation, can there not be any sort of legal action taken? IANAL, and I've not gone over their ToS with a fine toothed comb, but I can't believe they can essentially eliminate a primary source of income (for some people/businesses) without an explanation, especially when no ToS violation is known.

Wouldn't this almost be equivalent to being terminated from a job without reason (and isn't that also subject to legal action)?

While I don't know if they do, I can see why Google might prioritize review of accounts which are about to receive a payout over ones where that's far in the future: once the money is sent, it's generally not recoverable. That's when Google has the highest quotient of [data on the account] * [value at risk], so that's when it makes sense to review. AdWords and AdSense policies tell advertisers and publishers that adv…

The problem with that, IMHO, is that payout is always for the previous month, so if they ban you right before payout, they're taking ~2 months worth of ad revenue from you.

I don't understand how 3 weeks before payout is not enough time to analyze the previous month's clicks/impressions for fraud.

Re: terminating a job, in many states employment can be legally terminated without reason (both by the employer and the employee).

See "at will employment".

Yes, a few days from a $400 payout. I was 15 at the time. All attempts to get my account unbanned have been completely ignored.

Adsense has an age requirement. You have to be 18 or over to use it. From the terms of service: By submitting an application to use the Services, if you are an individual, you represent that you are at least 18 years of age . If you are 18 now I would try again. That they ignore requests from underage people is understandable, when their terms of service state that they are not allowed to join. Did you not know this…

Interesting. I actually didn't know this. Even so, I have since attempted to appeal a few years ago (I am 23 now) and was ignored again.

As for the reason why I was banned, I'm confident that one of my competitors was clicking my ads intentionally to get me banned.

I got banned because someone posted some insults/porn words in a title. There was no pictures/videos... it was just words. They sent me the link where the words were and gave me something like 4 days (or was it more? It was a pretty scary amount of time anyway). I went to that url and didn't find anything, so I sent them a mail asking for more info. Never had a reply. Got banned. I discovered later that it was in the…

Can you really get banned for "insults/porn words in a title" on your website? Could you provide the email they sent you? That sounds so strange.

I don't understand how this poll could accurately reflect anything. Other than it being anonymous and open to anyone, the given options are still wide open to interpretation: Waiting until an account accumulates funds does give them a more complete picture to make judgments about the validity of the accrued funds. Also doesn't Google refund advertisers? then what's the motive here?

Google refund advertisers? I find it hard to understand how this kind of refunding works full scale to make sure all the account freezes will distribute the spending back to the advertisers.

If I have a paper company, and you're my only customer, should it be illegal for you to drop me as a supplier? I don't think it should.

I don't believe AdSense actually has contracts with any of their publishers but even that wouldn't make it illegal, just easier for the publisher to win a lawsuit.

You can sue for any reason including this but it's expensive and unlikely to succeed because Google can pretty much out-lawyer anyone. The case would probably get thrown out immediately.

I got my Adsense banned, but I was lucky to get it appealed after a second try...I ranted on my blog post about how YouTube then started sending copyright content notifications on my videos which retroactively removed my finalized earnings (keyword: finalized), this was like 4 months AFTER my Adsense was reinstated. That happened within 4 days of the payout cycle. [1] https://medium.com/p/6caf19d2c542

I think your history with Google (and other large corps) being what it is makes you less of a good example here. I wouldn't be surprised if you're on a Google internal watch list.

Earlier quoted context omitted.

There are solid differences between renting cars and serving ads. In the end, it's would be a civil legal matter and probably not worth anybody's time for $100 coupled with the high chance of losing considering the terms of service agreed to.

In my state (Missouri) Small Claims Court seems to work fairly well for these types of things. It does take a lot of time, so it probably isn't "worth" it in a purely monetary sense, but it is worth it to me in an ethical sense. It is fraud, pure and simple.

It isn't fraud. The legal requirements for such are subtle and numerous, but basically require knowledge and intent which are difficult to prove and unlikely in most or all of these scenarios.

Google has to do it's best to serve it's customers on both sides, those who display ads and those who pay for advertisers. Cheating exists, the mechanisms to mitigate that cheating aren't perfect, and each side loses some as a result. To claim that their imperfect anti-cheating mechanism is fraudulent is quite a stretch, and you'll be hard pressed to find a advertising facilitator which provides better customer service for such small sums of money.
