You mentioned it won't have access to Google Play or Play Services APIs. That will be a serious challenge, and they are bound to end up with a lot of frustrated customers. I don't see how they can advertise that it runs "top Android apps" & "latest Android apps" without supporting the Play Services APIs.
Not having to join your phone to Google Skynet is a major plus for many people.
Also, many Android devices are in the same boat (pun intended!) as the vendors haven't licensed the proprietary bits from Google.

I have been following Jolla for a long time and have owned n900 and the N9. Yes until they actually sell a phone to a real customer it is not being sold. Vaporware is a bit of a strong word but they have come out with many announcements so far and after nearly 2 years there is no product in anyone's hands.
What do you mean? They sold their first 450 handsets today. Although it was a pre-order sales only, but that means something.
They've actually sold many more devices (per-order). What they did now was to deliver the first 450 devices.

Please forward this paragraph to their web folks. Just put it right at the top as a first-read. Then everything else makes a lot more sense.
The first paragraph on a sales page should never include the word "pulseaudio." It probably shouldn't even include "Linux" unless you're selling server hardware.
For that matter, it shouldn't include fork (unless you are talking about the eating utensil), Meego (WTH is that?), Dalvik, etc.

#249Can anyone comment on how free this device will be? From what I recall, Sailfish is partially free software, but contains proprietary software as well which is a real shame.

So it looks like the software will be open source. I just hope that the device will not be locked down..
