That's not just an HN issue. It's a problem in any community where there is a significant ratio of self-professed geeks or the like.

Parodies are usually funny because they're true. The citations in HN comments are some of the most valuable contributions to the site. This whole post is depressing. Some folks probably should feel tied down by their reputation/ego.
