any suggestions on the best scripts to set something like this up? I have a similar "ornot" site that I would love to get off the ground but not sure which platform to choose
Scripts? It's a database table with images with scores that are randomly accessed and presented to the user. When the user clicks on a photo, + to score, and reload the page with new photos. Point well taken. I usually use a simple request to show interest in a new category, and hope someone interested gets involved. My interest is in something slightly more complicated than the turnkey sites that are out there, as well as more of a helpful tool to entrepreneurs and advertisers - the thesis of the idea is best represented by an "ornot script" but it goes beyond another "me too" site that already exists. My thoughts of adding value using something that is fairly widespread may be futile though.

Well no, I don't think it's worth spending all that much time on either. But if you could do it in a weekend, and bring in a few thousand dollars a year because of it, so be it.

Understood. I was responding to a guy that is sitting on a domain though. That means it's a net loser for him unless he does something with it.
Now, you can approach that by dedicating a lot of time and effort into building something unique, as you would like to do, or you can just realize that the market is pretty bare and launch something that will make some pocket change at worst.
Given that he's considering giving the domain away for free, I simply suggested he do the latter.
