The cheating was last year, during an exhibition, on a different class of sail boat. The Oracle team added a few 5 pound weights to the front of a 1.5 ton boat to shift the weight slightly. Not exactly the most important thing to note.
As an aside, this is how high performance events operate. Look at NASCAR, F1, Indy, etc., you push edge of design to just beyond the legal limits and hope you don't get caught. The rest of the world doesn't need any introduction to these methods. Ask any of the Brazilian, Finnish, or German drivers racing for any of the Italian, Japanese, or British F1 teams.

#5I understand the fervor surrounding Ellison within the HN community, but there are far better aspects of the America's cup that we can focus on.
1) The design of the boats bringing engineering and physics to every TV set watching the Cup.
2) Computer modelling as the preeminent method of testing before models in wind tunnels.
3) The graphical representation of tactics during races on television.
Sure we can talk about Ellison and Oracle with whatever tone pleases you the most, but the America's Cup is bigger than its sponsors.
