elbii.com | Mountain View | Part & Full time

Elbii is a young, tiny, garage-based web consulting shop in downtown Mountain View. We're completely swamped with work. We're looking for impressively-focused full-stack engineers and designers to help take on contracts. You will earn more than a typical, tenured position at other companies. You'll also get hands-on experience with a ton of open source technologies -- our stack varies depending on the project.

That said, we currently prefer folks who grok one or more of the following:

- Rails

- Node & Express

- Backbone

- RequireJS

- Single-Page Web App architecture

- HTML5 / CSS3

- Postgres / MongoDB / Redis

- TDD

- BBQ (hey, we have a grill)

Shoot us a note to jobs at elbii if interested. Please include some code, designs, or a link to your github if appropriate.

Have a great weekend. :-)

Twitch.tv in San Francisco is hiring engineers for backend and product. http://www.twitch.tv/jobs At twitch we work with the largest people in the gaming industry. We've rocketed to the top of the gaming industry food chain - all within 2 years of our launch. We're looking for talented engineers that like building the right things in the right way. We are broadly breaking out our positions as follows: * product engin…

Product Engineers

We spent the first 18 months of our life scaling the heck out of our platform. We were growing at 1m MAU month over month. Now we're growing even faster, but we're better at the scaling side of things so we're able to focus on building out the product. You'll be involved in helping us execute on our product roadmap. We're highly analytics focused and love to kill ideas as much as have them succeed. We're building aspects to our product which will engage users _even more_ than they're currently engaged.

As per above, we're now focused on our product - are large part of that is focusing on bringing in more money. Right now our users subscribe to broadcasters, we take a cut and we pass on the lions share to the broadcaster. Users love this, they like knowing that they're supporting their favourite broadcasters. We're finding new ways to have users support their broadcasters and we need engineers to help with that! If you've integrated various payment providers, integrated ad servers, etc, you're definitely the type of person we want to chat with!

Backend Engineers

At twitch we've a range of work to do on the backend. With the "easy" scaling challenges behind us we're now working out how to go from ~40m MAU to about 10x that. You'll be working with people working on the worlds largest live video streaming platform. Interest in gaming not required in this case! (though it doesn't hurt ;)).

Challenges that we're undertaking in this regard are varied, here is a sample of things we're doing, or are planning on doing:

* scale out our new HLS video platform

* build the new tools we need to support many more engineers pushing code constantly

* scale our database

* design a "task" system which permits us to deploy code to arbitrary machines and route requests to these processes

* monitoring everything and working to keep all requests as snappy as possible

Bellevue, WA - ArenaNet

ArenaNet is the video game developer behind Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2.

We're looking for intelligent software engineers to join our Server Programming Team. You might be more familiar with the phrase "platform engineer" or "backend developer." Whatever you want to call it, we build distributed services in C++ that scale to hundreds of thousands of concurrent users across hundreds of servers in mulitple datacenters. Also, our game is pretty cool.

If you're interested, e-mail cmFtc2V5QGFyZW5hLm5ldA== or check out http://www.arena.net/ (we're hiring for other development positions, too!)

Since you're open to remote employment, I guess that "break in" period could be done with a tourist visa ;) [and yes - you can pay after the person leaves and/or to the foreign bank account...]

No, you need a National Insurance Number to work, you need to have permission to work in the UK to be paid.
