I read a lot on my phone, mostly books, but also news. It syncs the progress with my tablet (and possibly with a Kindle if I were to buy one), so I can read books comfortably almost any time I have nothing more interesting to do.

I would love it if I didn't need to look down to do so. It would be much more comfortable on a HUD. I've been wanting one for a while.

The observation I made is that I spend just as much time with people face to face as I did pre-smartphone. Today I just have additional conversations running in the background, which is why I sometimes take out my phone. I think that's the only thing that has changed. We converse more online but not on the expense of real conversations. And - sorry for sounding harsh - if your girlfriend is checking her phone when you are going for a walk then this probably just isn't the relationship she was looking for. Same goes for people who take out their phones in groups, maybe the discussion just died off, maybe more friends are joining in, or some other reason. What did we do before we had smartphones? We just stared impatiently into the void, waiting for someone to pick up the conversation again.

I still don't get the practical use case for this. I see it could be cool, the ad campaign is good, but why do I use this?

As much as I'd prefer things to look as nice as possible, the truth is that the market often doesn't care. I suspect people would allow Glass to slide, largely due to its futurist connotations, the same way they let many electric cars slide.

Not necessarily, the popularity of hipster glasses is a perfect example of something ugly and awkward becoming hip. It's very possible for these to ride the coattails of geek chic and become widely accepted.

That doesn't mean it will be easy, there's a fine line between geeky (hipster glasses) and dorky (bluetooth headsets, Segways). And of course, price will have a lot to do with it, a $700 fashion statement serves a very different niche than a $70 one.

Well, it could make you WANT to do those things now that you have the glasses. I've never considered sky diving but if I could easily record sky diving like this, then maybe I would do it.

I really don't see how being able to record sky diving would make me (or anybody) want to go skydiving. What about the experience itself? Is that worth nothing now, and only the recording of it is worthwhile?

And your girlfriend who was looking at instragram while she was walking with you, was she looking at the pictures, or was she watching another character look at them?

I asked at I/O. Eventually, yes, but for now, you'd need to wear contacts. I don't know if that's changed, but at the time, there was no way to mount prescription lenses.
