I'll third Gandi. The transfer from GoDaddy went smoothly. (The longest part was waiting on GoDaddy.) The free SSL cert is quite a nice bonus, and their customer service is great. I'm considering purchasing hosting from them in the near future.

I'll fourth Gandi; nothing but simple, non-obnoxious domain name registration.

Not that I disagree with your point, but GoDaddy ran a lot of tests and the ads with scantily clad women put in seemingly compromising positions or being taken advantage of returned the most money in sales. It isn't the scantily clad women necessarily it is that they are really the only registrar people can think of when they want to get their own domain because godaddy is the only domain registrar that advertises on tv.

I meant that GoDaddy tried ads with a lot of different gimmicks, and they discovered which ones worked best for them.

Gandi rocks. You also get the free DNS, 5 email boxes, basic blog and site installs and web redirections.

I've had great results from domainmonster and gandi (both European based, but that shouldn't make a difference).

I have used domainmonster for several years and have had no issues at all. They have an excellent customer service too.

The only practical technical difference with Godaddy for my purposes is that they do not support catchall addresses for email forwarding for security reasons, but this is minor.

Well, I am not a fan of GoDaddy, and have transferred all my domains somewhere else last week, but in their defense, 30% might be a convenience fee, which is justifiable.

A couple of years ago I was talking to a retired programmer who used to work for AT&T. He told me that many of the telephone options that people paid extra for cost AT&T effectively nothing; it was just a matter of setting some variables in the software.

Question, if a domain goes into redemption, can it only be renewed again by the same person using the same registrar?

Wow, that's fascinating. I'm completely surprised and impressed that you're going to revamp the home page. It's a bold, original and meaningful step. I'm sure you understand the depth of my acquiescence when I state that this -literally- superficial change will do a lot to upturn your institution's misanthropic history.

And, might I add, there's not a thing wrong with you in believing that the complications of your system are what's wrong with your company. I hope the brilliance of this initial step continues to shine on all the wonder in the long career of GoDaddy.com.

I used to use GoDaddy until they charged me $25 simply because my WHOIS info was inaccurate. They could have emailed me to update it, but instead charged me the fee and THEN told me if I didn't fix it, they would cancel my domains. I immediately transferred all of my domains to Gandi.

I bet they would have tried to upsell me on private WHOIS service as well, even though Gandi offers it for free...
