Just so you know, the frontend framework wars started and ended pretty quickly in the latter half of the 2010s. It was the downstream effect of the browser wars settling down and W3C making big moves on getting vendors to finally implement standards that were sorely needed. It had nothing to do with web dev culture.

The most urgent needs in frontend web dev were components and state management.

Vue and React won out, and I still don't see that changing for the foreseeable future on the vast majority of corporate web apps. This remaining split is just coke vs pepsi. Basically, a meaningless distinction and stable.

I don't doubt there will always be new tools, but a lot of HN doesn't see the forest for the trees when it comes to web. So many people chime in ignorantly just to be bullies and spread FUD and self-promote. I think that strategy not going to work again for a while. Everyone is very burned out on that overplayed game in all aspects of life, not just web dev.

If anyone is interested in frontend dev, LLMs only further entrench this situation. Now is the time to be creative with mature tools and learn a thing or two. The web summer is upon us, not an autumn of dying tools nor a winter of AI replacing people.

It does not jeopardize Linux support for PS5. You can already run it on the PS5.

The issue with LLM copypaste by non-expert humans, and it took me a while to realize this, is ego.

What they feel like when they do it: "Man, I'm fucking brilliant. Look at me using new technology well. I was always the key provider of value here."

What they hear when you call out AI copypaste as less useful: "None of that is true."

Now we can debate on the factual merit of both sides, but that doesn't change the feelings.

Unfortunately, I don't see a way to change the feelings, because that dopamine burst of making non-experts feel like experts is something all the AI labs have a HUGE financial incentive to maximize in their products.

These exist. Very elaborate systems in many cases. Otherwise Hermes would probably have 30,000. Like a lot of agent tools they merge a ton of slop though so I wouldn’t consider them leaders.

Too many people are fixating on AI and missing the point. Oh the dev was salty because people can use AI, oh he's just angry that an LLM can do his work now and his skills are becoming "useless"...It's not about AI, it's about the community?

The guy is clearly burned out, fighting an uphill battle, and feeling like it's no longer worth it. He could have reported the bug and taken the money, but he didn't. To judge him for feeling upset that someone else did that, and not give him credit for not taking the money in order to contribute more to the community, is... well it's a choice, I guess.

The LLM wave hasn't really produced this upswell of terrific apps or ideas the "common man" would've made if he only knew how to code. It's just slop, usually made at the level of the lowest common denominator, literal bespoke software nothing can coalesce around. The exceptions are few and far between, and they usually started before AI and adapted to using it as an existing community.

If thisnsort of behaviour is going to become the norm for the future, there will be no future, and I'd want to get out too? There will always be the one guy that's just hungry enough to not care about others and they'll take the money. No community can form around that, it'll never even get a chance to start up under such conditions.
