Kudos to Apple for still having their latest iOS run on hardware as old as iPhone 11, which was released 7 years ago.

How is the Android world faring in this regard? My last Android device was an Android One, but that seems to have been cancelled.

edit: holy crap, iOS 27 made an iPhone 11 pro max I just installed it on so much snappier! Absolutely crazy level of improvement.

Because you watch as you type. You may not find it useful, I very much do for apps with colliding names.

Some people don’t like that. I don’t know why you like having to wait but if they showed Chess for CHE you could still find other apps if you kept typing.

Maybe there are also people who like the lottery of results changing the instant you click on the app you want because it adds excitement to their lives.

Why do filesystem indices get stale? The OS can track what files get accessed, isn't inotify watertight? I know that Windows has some equivalent stuff, that the antivirus uses to disallow opening files before they got scanned, so I'd wager that API is functionally required to not miss any changes. Yet Windows indexing is one of the worst pieces of software in existence and frequently gets out of sync.

Even with inotify failing, if the system is plugged in and idle, it could quickly do a scan for files with update date > last known indexed time and index those. Like once per day maybe. Wouldn't take much load or memory, IMHO.

Well, my Galaxy S22 (from well: 2022), which still works great will no longer receive _any_ updates after February 27, so I'll have to get new one, or potentially suffer open security holes in the future.

Also, even now I only receive security fixed on a quarterly schedule.

Still not keen on switching to the walled garden - I like the apps I have, including custom browser engines. I like having F-Droid with open source apps.

Will probably get another Samsung, as they have extended updates to 7 years for newer S models.

I quit Apple Mail (due to its poor handling of Gmail accounts) and started using Mimestream years ago. Truly excellent mail client. Actively and thoughtfully developed.

Paid but worth every penny.

Anyone got saving files from the web on the phone replaced with iCloud Drive?

Overall it took over 1h20m or so for download and install this version in my iPhone. And Settings still displays indexing notification while I have little on the device, and I have disabled searches for every app. So I wonder what it does optimizing and indexing then?

Yeah, few hours/days after the meeting about a minor detail... In a business settings meetings are routinely recorded and transcribed because everybody is just lazy.
