Yes, unfortunately. I have met people that love AI videos (my in-laws being the closest to my bubble) and defend them as enjoying creativity. Many people with niche and nostalgic tastes loved that music AI that got sued to oblivion recently. For the record, I revile both as well. But for every person eating salad, there’s someone subsisting on McDonalds.

Okay, AI videos, whatever, people are stupid. But that's not art, and it's not music. People in my circles (art-adjacent) immediately bounce off AI images and music.

Yeah, well, people in my circles are too cultured to have even heard of YouTube and Instagram, they listen to only the finest torrented FLACs that you have to download via special VPN, otherwise the bits download funny and you can really hear it, but only if you have good speakers made from the wood of an extinct evergreen tree that really brings out the harmonics.

Ok? but the clue is that the key is the "32 Proquiritations" immediately before the numbers. Not that it is a book cipher. Both Jan and Helmut misses that. Jan assumes that the keys are the "names of the ancestors", while Helmut assumes that the first row are page numbers and the second row are word numbers. W…

Why write a sentence by sentence exigesis like this? The text you are responding to is right above where you are writing. Who is going to miss that context? Is there something more that you want to communicate other than that the linked page does not in fact solve it the way the LLM did? Writing more does not in itself make a comment more thoughtful! We are all presumably on the same page here, just say what you want…

The longer of the two quotes is from the article, not the comment they're replying to. The point is that OP did miss that context. They claimed that the article isn't right but, if you look closely, the claim in the article is true - the OP misunderstood it. So quoting precisely what the article said really was necessary.

Given how little effort has gone into addressing climate change, doom seems more likely to me, but I doubt it'll be the autocomplete machines that do us in.

> Given how little effort has gone into addressing climate change, doom seems more likely to me Or it is simply implies that most of decision‑making agents has formed a consensus that climate change isn't that big of a problem.

The irony is not lost on me, when I go down a ChatGPT rabbit hole, on how humanity could reverse the effects of burning all those fossil fuels, that I'm using more fossil fuels in order to research solutions to the problem.

Synonym is the word you’re after.

I'm looking for the word you use when you've replaced an embarrassing word with a less embarrassing one.

"euphemism". Like passing gas vs farted.

We've sunk so low that people are now complaining about old-school inline quoting...

Except they didn't actually solve it, they just suggested it was a book cipher, which was a known strategy.

Yes, imagine it's a book cipher and then you hand it to a tool which famously has had every book in existence cleaved apart and fed into it.

The number of permutations you can try to decode a book cipher is near infinite. Just "a book cipher" does not tell you how the numbers map to words or characters in each book.

You just try creating random book ciphers and see whether an LLM would solve them without hints.

>"Proquiritations" is an archaic, rare, or obsolete English word that refers to the act of crying out, clamoring, or making a public outcry. Because I've never seen that word before I thought I'd put that here.

Will file that away as well, seems like it could be useful in various professional contexts.
