Ah yes, the pleasures of paying $1000+ dollars for a phone whose developers can't even bother to add an `if (!indexingDone)`. I'll answer your question though: because it doesn't show anywhere the progress of the indexing.

This is going to sound like a really weird and irrelevant nitpick, but I dislike how they changed the version numbers to be year+1. I like that they all unified and have a relationship to the current year, but we're not buying cars. It’s so much worse than that. This happens to me on a daily basis with both MacOS and iOS. Say I’m searching for Chess, I’ll get to the C-H and it’ll show the Chess app, but enter that next -E and it’s totally gone. Siri AI feels like a beta version (I think it officially is?). It’s unaware indexing isn’t done yet so it just tells me “I can’t find any photos of Italy” although there’s many thousands. Then it tells me how to let it access my photos using nonexistent iOS settings, even though permissions aren’t the problem. Amateurish.
It is still not multi language. I mean I can talk to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, fucking Grok in any language I want and it will understand / respond in given language. Apple being Apple, I have to choose a language in Siri menu and it has to be the phone language for some reason.. Otherwise it downgrades to old Siri. Apple's incompetence in AI / Assistant etc stuff has to be studied.
Why should Apple focus on technical excellence when the company and their products are touted for literally gimmicks? In the end this is what brings the money and profits through the door, can't blame a company for providing what the market craves.

I think it’s because Apples fiscal year does start in October, so iOS 27 is basically released when Apple does start their fiscal year 2027.

As a European, and Apple household: no new iPhone Duo, Watch or iPhone 18 Pro Max purchases in this house until Apple desists with its malicious campaign to break the DMA. I'll get by fine with other AI products in the meantime.
You do know that Google is fighting the same DMA rules as Apple? They need to similarly make Gemini hot-swappable to anything on Android and don't want to. Apple was just first because they're a bigger and more visible target.
Guess also don't give money to Google (and other privacy-invading, usually US companies)?
disclaimer: I only use Siri for voice dial (worked on my Ericsson T20!), and it is extremely unreliable, and setting kitchen timers.
