I usually use beta OSs, but I completely skipped MacOS 26 and 27, mostly because I heard terrible things about 26. Is 27 good enough to upgrade from Sequoia? Is your answer the same when I tell you I have an M1 Pro Max?

I've been running it on the macOS 27 beta all summer, and it's night and day. It's usable again.

Yes. I have a M1 8GB MacBook Air that I use as a lightweight travel machine, and macOS 26 utterly trashed the performance on it. Things I used to do fine (work on small Xcode projects) were completely unusable, to the point where I had to downgrade it to Sequoia. I've been running it on the macOS 27 beta all summer, and it's night and day. It's usable again.

I'm still on Sequoia and I have zero intention of updating to this AI-saturated slop.
There are over 200 security patches in the newest versions of macOS. AI is helping patch previously unrealized holes.
AI is also making plenty of holes.
I have not seen a single case of anything that an AI has found that could not have been automatically found without AI.

I feel pretty good about the 27 series in a way I haven't in the past (I've been running iOS 27 and it's working well), except for one thing, they remove x86 support (no more Rosetta), so just keep that in mind in case that might disrupt anything for you.
People have already replied in part, but to clarify: macOS 27 itself won't run on Intel chips, just Apple Silicon but it does still have Rosetta (macOS 28 will drop it completely though)

Apple's search is so comically bad. For example, I can click on my applications, and I have an app called Chess. I can often type letters C-H-E-S-S and have it not show the Chess app. This is inside the applications folder! Many people have complained before. Say I’m searching for Chess, I’ll get to the C-H and it’ll show the Chess app, but enter that next -E and it’s totally gone.
