very HN take. Reality is 3.8 flash is good at what it does (being fast + cheap)... but that market is becoming very saturated and google is not competing at all at the frontier where major spend lies.

So just ignore the reality, that Gemini (and yes even 3.8 Flash) is worst of all major LLMs across most metrics? But that's fine, because reasons?

It's ridiculously fast, and generally very good with real-world knowledge. It's my go-to for anything non-coding, and for quick fixes/questions/prototypes.

If metrics measured what most people need from an LLM, it's competitive, IMO, and with their TPU chips, it's probably economically competitive.

Adsense has been a nightmare for us. They have been putting thousands of scam adverts on our website for some time. Think "you have been looking at xxx and must pay a $100 fine" type popup nonsense. Hosted on the following websites: azurestaticapps.net azurewebsites.net herokuapp.com ondigitalocean.app digitaloceanspaces.com netlify.app Google doesn't allow you to block these domains, because they consider them "TLDs…

I'm curious why Google wouldn't want to block those domains. I find it hard to imagine any site that would be using only one of those domains and would be legitimate to purchase from. I understand people having blogs etc on a domain like that, and obviously development stuff, but nothing with purchase intent.

Google Cloud revenue grew 82% year-over-year I am guessing they gonna survive fine

It's still "only" 10-15% of Googles total revenue and less than 10% of it's profits. It's not nothing, but it's also not nearly as important as the dodgy ads business. https://fortune.com/2026/04/29/google-earnings-cloud-ai/

dodgy ads business is not growing at 80% yoy

Google is part of a cartel of ad companies. Most websites do not have any option left. To blame small companies for choosing big tech monopolies is unfair and solves nothing. Strong regulations and splitting monopolies are the real solutions here. And if Google breaks the law someone from the company needs to go to prison, too. Knowingly helping criminals is a crime itself.

You don't have to make it your business model to sell people's attention to those wanting to manipulate them.

When everybody is giving their product for free to compete with a paid product is almost impossible.

But I agree that it should not be like that and that governments around the world should regulate all these "free" services.
