#152Me and my wife (then my girlfriend) have written "realistic" space sci-fi in Finnish for over 20 years. Now with AI we are finally able to translate our stories to English. The quality starts to be there.
There are a lot of small languages in the world, and translation used to be extremely expensive. And there is never too much good space sci-fi.
(We don't write space battles or wars. Our style is slower and bit more philosophical. Light speed is the limit, and travel takes centuries.)

You mentioned benchmarks don’t mean much in this area. What are the best models you found in this area? Personally, I’ve had the most success with GPT models using MCP servers for this task.
Same here. 5.5 would sometimes oneshot relatively complex models even without MCP. Opus, however, even with Fusion 360 MCP access would usually make comically bad models. It seemed that Opus tried to reason through the problem while GPT would come up with a general plan of using whatever tools were available to solve the problem. In chat, it would use the available Python and trimesh. It was also the only time I had ChatGPT work on something for over 30 min without giving up.

#154Been working on a replacement for my Git GUI of choice, Tower, for the last few months. I've been using Tower 2 for almost a decade now, refusing the monthly subscription to upgrade to a fresher version. I'm going to keep mine a one time purchase with support guaranteed for a year. If a major version releases after that, it'll be another perpetual license for the new version. If you want the new features, you can choose to upgrade, if you don't stay on the version you're on until new feature warrant it.

#157Because my work life is mostly LLM promoting, I’ve gotten back into hobby robotics, which I think has a low chance of LLMs taking over anytime soon. Designing and building a robot that can build a wooden hardwood deck using the edge-screw method.

#158I've been making a Rust-based XML parser that can be used on its own, or as a drop-in replacement for libxml2 at the C ABI level. Basically, it's not only 2x faster than libxml2, but being written in Rust eliminates a lot of cybersecurity risk. Roughly 70% of CVEs come from memory-safety bugs, a whole class that Rust rules out at compile time.
