Auto-moderation is broken and the human mods are preferential, inconsistent, often harsh, especially to new people or hobbyists, which is pretty discouraging.

Right, but my point was about what they said about the use-case. They couldn't have been coming here for AI news since 2017. So did they finally find their use-case for HN some 2 years ago? If they were indeed coming here before AI revolution, it was a different type of medium.
You extrapolated that to assuming that AI news was my only use case.
Am saying that a lot of us like HN the way it is, and the way it has evolved organically into a firehose of AI news.

Don't get me wrong, I leverage these AI tools as well to be more productive, I'm not against using it or anything else. But I'm also old enough to know that eventually AI will be "old news" when the next hot topic comes around.

I miss all the programming articles. It feels like everyone has given up with the very idea of ever writing code now and the entire practice of making software has been handed over to AI.
Reddit's /r/programming is very well moderated, and they specifically don't allow articles about AI, unless it's programming AI. You should check it out.
I noticed it as well but I don’t see a problem with it. I have spot-checked it at times and saw 5 to 8 of the top 10 posts about AI or directly adjacent. We are in an emergent, dynamic periodt. I think you are looking for a different product. Reddit or another app that shows you a feed of things you are interested in is more in this vein
I am not, HN was this product, it just changed. Hence the invitation to discussion on the subject.
