The basic idea is to provide a digital commitment device - a choice you make now that restricts your future options, so it becomes impossible to act against your long-term goals during the selected timeframe.

The basis of these apps is pretty simple: you have to adjust your calorie target based on changes, you have to re-calculate as you go.

What I've found is that tracking activity via calories burned is horribly unproductive as there are large variations on how many calories were "burned" depending on the app, device and activity. Are there any scientific studies on how to calculate calorie burn for any activities? Anything in a controlled environment to understand something simple like adult walking 1 flat mile at 3mph. It seems like this would be really hard to nail down compared with say average calories in an apple. Anecdata: as soon as I stopped tracking activity, the scale started moving.

Orator: A text based video editor that runs inside the browser without any back end. You can load a video which will get automatically transcribed. Then highlight to: delete, duplicate, replace video, replace background or export.

It is also possible to export the project to a NLE video editor https://vidstudio.app/video-editor for more advanced editing even using keyframes. The entire pipeline runs on inside a browser tab including the transcription.

The best thing about it imo is that you do not need an account you just start editing and everything will be persisted in your machine so you can come back to it later.

Stowly is a home inventory app, designed originally for keeping track of your belongings and also so that, in the event of a disaster, you can easily export a list or share a link of all of your belongings for insurance claim purposes. It's turned into a lot more though with the ability to lend items to people, keep track of warranties, service history, set reminders for upcoming tasks (like changing a filter) and much more. It's ever evolving and I'm always looking for feedback / critique / suggestions.

A simple API that converts HTML documents to PDF or images. Used by more people that I would have hoped for.

I tried to follow Linux mentality ; do one thing, but do it well. I can only hope that I'm reaching it with PDFShift :)

It's built using Python (Sanic Framework) with Pyppeteer (Python port of Puppeteer)

Lots of dead comments here. I wonder what happened (the links I tested appears to work so it's not the reason. The posts appears to respect HN guidelines too, at least there are no insults or bad comments)..
