  But! just in my... scattered couple hours of using the iPhone Duo today, the iPhone... has a bunch... of...these tiny, frankly unnecessary, but also very awesome... quality-of-life things... that make it feel...like a more fun phone to use.

  I forget the specs and numbers and like raw horsepower and megapixels and stuff, but just, just the... fit and finish and the little animations and stuff like that.

  And the... feel of it. I feel like the iPhone kind of mogs the Samsung.

  Like, it really all starts with that animation... switching between the inner and outer display. It's... really clean and it's fast.

It's coming. It's not a hardware problem.

It's a software problem. The OS has to switch seamlessly between the iPhone experience and a macOS experience where a full desktop/terminal/install anything is available. Merging the two is not an easy task considering how different the use cases are for both the OSes. Samsung DEX is also not great, it allows some basic stuff but is not going to replace your Macbook.

I think though that we are very close, perhaps < 5 years. Would be amazing to connect this thing to a Studio Display, keyboard and mouse and just act like it's a Mac Mini.

Right now, some apps don't work at all and others are just stretched. I feel a better use of the screen space is around the corner for both Android foldable and Duo users.

It seems like apps by default fill one screen or the over in landscape mode, while by default they fill the whole screen in portrait, which is a nice setup that means that phone apps will mostly just work, which is nice. Some developers will customize how their interface works on the passport style ratio over the narrower design of current iPhone, like adding side controls, which will be nice, but not strictly necessary so smaller devs won’t need to do much. I do think the dominance of iPads really helps too compared to Android, as iOS users largely expect iOS apps to support phone, tablet, and laptop style use cases. So even when devs don’t do much to support the Duo, or take a long time to do so, work they’ve already done to support iPad screen sizes/ratios and the windowed multi-tasking setup on iPadOS will mean apps already handle some of the demands of the Duo, since even apps that generally prioritize phone use include the basics for iPad use.

Ternus opened the Duo segment of the presentation talking about aspect ratio. Having the "right" aspect ratio drove the design for this more than anything else. It's something Apple really cares about (c.f. iPads and MacBooks)

Same! If they came out with a just-the-front-screen-of-the-Duo iPhone, the form factor would be just about perfect, IMO.
