GrapheneOS hardware options are substantially behind iOS hardware options. Also Graphene is somewhat annoying to use; I missed shots bc the camera app didn’t open fast enough.
Pixels are definitely not substantially behind iPhones hardware. In fact it is very much the other way around.

What is there to get? Some people just don’t want to use other services. Period. Not sure why people having their own subjective views and preferences is such a hard concept to grasp.
If you think that something extremely basic seems something that is hard to grasp for other people, it's usually because you're misunderstanding the situation, not because other people are failing to grasp the extremely basic thing.

For years it meant fewer features and frustrating experiences in group chats. Kids liked renaming group chats and liking/reacting to individual messages, and sending higher-res photos, and one "green bubble" participant nerfed the whole chat for everyone. In spite of Apple knowing kids got bullied over this, meh, money. Thankfully this has now been just about fixed (depending on which Android version/carrier someone…
How has it been fixed? It's still just Apple parsing the messages that came through like so and so reacted with some emoji to some message, and then attaching it to that message. But then this doesn't work with reacting to attachments like photos as it doesn't know which photo was reacted to.
Quality, group renaming, reactions to text-only messages - those have been addressed I guess. Maybe typing indicators (at least 1:1) too.

#224The linked blueferry doc is excellent. Back in 2020, inspired by a comment on HN, I looked into writing a proxy to send and receive iMessages on Linux through an iPhone connected with Bluetooth Message Access Profile (MAP). I was able to send and receive messages, but I ran into the problem mentioned in the doc in the "Group metadata side channel" section: the bMessages in the inbox included the message originator, b…
Hey! I made blueferry - the bluetooth connection works great on certain adapters, but ANCS is the wild west. I love that Tether is helping to figure out all the quirks there - I had lots of time a month ago and almost none now.

If Apple starts allowing sideloading apps they'll still get at least 95% of their revenue today. Just look at the s***show on Android.
No, Apple losing its 30% cut of all transactions made on iPhones is an existential risk to them.

I love HN. Read an article that raises a reasonable point about a project’s license, and that project’s author shows up to announce they were convinced and changed the license accordingly. Repo was updated 5 minutes ago. It’s things like this that give me hope for the world.
Not to be Debbie Downer but software licensing has no effect on what matters to billions of people. We are facing very real global and societal issues that people on this site are actively exacerbating, like disinformation and climate change. If a dude changing an inconsequential text file on GitHub gives you hope for the world, then please broaden your perspective.

You mean the same Apple, who supports RCS, and historically supported open protocols? As to iMessage, think carefully about the architecture, and maybe you can imagine why it is Apple only.
You are obviously very new to the tech world if you dont recall the many years of customer lobbying, and Apple refusing outright for a long time until they were strongarmed into it by law. You cant then turn around and claim they are all sunshine and roses because they support open protocols when they were forced to begrudgingly.

Nice axiom. Not true. Proof: the sibling comment.

Ah nice, I had no idea. Then if I was somehow forced into using iOS I'd probably try that first.
It doesn't do messages or notifications. "Just" things like file copy and clipboard.

> Do you think AGPL is going to stop a crawler from incorporating your work into their training set? No, but i propose we ostracize anyone who uses LLMs for the wrong reasons (i.e. not accessibility), and i hope you do too. The reasons are mostly not related to licenses, though, but it upholds licensing as a nice-to-have consequence. (loved your comment edit)
Yeah, let’s go back to 1930 because if we cry wolf loud enough the wolf will disappear…? That it? Doesn’t work like that. Better adapt and see how you can turn the tool to do your bidding rather than try to piss against the wind in the hope the wind changes direction the next 5 seconds. It won’t.
Most of those struggles had intense lobbying from the industry with more or less the same discourse you have. I don't care if AI can do my bidding if it destroys the planet and the livelihood of my loved ones with it, just like i don't care if lead pipes can bring water to my home if they bring saturnism to my entire community.
