The problem is a network effect. Lot of people rage quit X and then they return to it because they realize the reach isn't there on Bluesky, and whenever that happens it just sends strong signals

I don't really like X either, I feel like the feed algorithm isn't very good and just shows the same thing repeated by multiple accounts.

I'm trying to objectively view the two platforms without the partisan rhetorics. There isn't that many places besides Threads.

I personally like the old php forums which had a real presence.

I've always said that if XCancel and Nitter get taken down, I'm not going to suddenly decide to make an X account--I'm just going to stop reading their content. Same for old.reddit.com. If they kill it, I'm not going to give in and create an account--I'm just going to stop visiting.

But a few other people will make an account to continue reading

same here, my videos and posts would hover close to a million on average. I covered europe mostly where I'm from and the happenings there.

After Nikita took over I found X to be significantly worse. They also realized paying people to repost viral videos wasn't drawing advertisers.

In fact one fo the reasons I think their algorithm is so bad now is because they lack advertisers (conversion on X remains the lowest out of all social media platforms) and have to rely on people paying for X premium who naturally wants to be seen and engage in echo chambers.

The real deal breaker for me is when X did not honor their freedom of speech philosophy and did not offer me protection when a certain European country got involved and became very aggressive that I had to leave.

Companies, celebrities, media, even state agencies all post (only) on Twitter. At least the last one is a shame, but there's a good excuse about reach.

I work out of cafes a lot, so I use a commercial VPN often. This means that I am unable to read Reddit. (Not to mention I have to pass two Cloudflare captchas on most other sites.)

If I can't use Xcancel, then I won't be able to read Twitter on the rare occasion I want to.

Strangely, as someone who is online a lot, I seem to be getting gradually cut off from other Internet users. HN is kind of the last survivor for me.

Bluesky's community is more toxic than X has ever been. I'd rather hang out on 4chan.

Reddit is the worst for this. I hate the disgusting, low class UX design where they let you read about 10-15 seconds of a page before locking you out. Though I think Pinterest takes the cake for being just the ugliest example of this.

(as a logged-in user) I just stopped using it the day they banned 3rd party apps and I don't miss it a bit. I visit some communities still, but only on PC with old reddit. Once that is gone, I'm gone as well.

you're smokin crack, i don't know a single person who uses twitter anymore. literally not one. 5+ years ago? _everyone_ was on twitter.

Both Imgur and Reddit have put a lot of roadblocks up lately as well. I think some of it is driven by trying to reduce bot traffic. It's quite inconsistent though which is really frustrating. I can look at the imgur homepage feed, but if I go into a specific post and accidentally click anywhere it throws a modal up that can't be dismissed. If I go on a specific subreddit or post I can freely look, but reddit homepage…

I recently deleted all of my Reddit accounts. The website had been unusable on mobile for a good while, with the constant and ever-more-aggressive nagging about switching to the app. Old Reddit was the one thing that made the site still usable. And now that requires a login. So fuck that. Bye Reddit. I'll miss some of the communities.

Same, the few communities that are worthwhile I still lurk through photon-reddit. It's a pity how the site went down, I only hope their stock value goes down in the same way.
