You dont get jobs on there because unless you have a “god tier” resume and application filled out, HR has to pay to unlock your name from your application, so nobody is going to do that if you arent the #1 candidate in all of LinkedIn that applied. LinkedIn is its own worst enemy.

I'm using LinkedIn ATM (searching for a new job) and all the jobs I've applied for have gone off site to the company's own applicant submit site. So I don't get what LinkedIn is actually locking up?

Ive found it good to find jobs to apply to on the companies own website

It is advertised as a necessary evil; "everyone needs one for employment" I recently deleted my LinkedIn. It is just used to data mine information from you. I think the site is generally pretty useless, even without all the privacy concerns.

99.9% of the time, it is just complete spam and a gross feeling data-mine. Twice it has gotten me job offers that have added a significant amount to my net worth. So my feelings are pretty mixed. I wouldn't blame anybody for disposing of it though.

I mean why not? There was a math guy who wanted wider viewership for his calculus lectures than he was getting on youtube, so he started uploading them to a porn site and built up a steady audience and income there.

It seems the most difficult obstacle on LI would be finding a woman who is into it, unless a "dating community" began to develop and adopt subtle cues that they were open to non-professional type activity like that. As long as there is no power imbalance or conflict of interest between the parties. It seems better than dating in your workplace, or at least, casting a wider net.

Other than that, LI seems like a ripe playground for hooking up. It really seems preferable, as a place where folks are basically expected to be professionals of some kind, and therefore stable, with an income, and also they're being themselves, not throwing out fake profile pics or weaving tall tales.

It would seem no different than a fling with a colleague during a professional conference. Perhaps it would tend more towards the "Ashley Madison" vibe than eHarmony.

Yeah at least all the big companies in my town seem to use LinkedIn as a place to get views for job postings, and then they funnel them to their internal system.
